Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) Radiation Safety3-day course, US$ 1,095 This hands-on workshop is designed for people who have to deal with Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) in places such as; water and waste treatment facilities, sites which handle oil or gas drilling pipes, natural gas and propane processing facilities, sites which process uranium or radium ore, thorium processing sites, facilities that handle radium illuminated instruments and dials, radon in buildings, and disposal and recycling facilities. Such sites may also be called Technologically Enhanced NORM or TENORM sites. This practical hands-on type of course will enable you to identify the presence and quantity of NORM, how to evaluate radiation conditions for worker safety, and how to safely handle or dispose of NORM.
This 24 hour class will provide radiation safety training in the following areas.
· Fundamentals of radiation and radioactivity · Radiation quantities and units of measurement · Properties of NORM radionuclides; uranium, radium, thorium, radon · Health hazards from exposure to radioactive materials · Regulations and guidelines of the NRC, States, EPA, and OSHA · How to evaluate internal and external exposures to NORM · Instruments to measure NORM (practice with actual NORM samples) · Interpreting radiation measurements · Surveys and decontamination
·
Safe
handling and disposal of NORM This course will include an extensive student manual with useful references for dealing with NORM issues and questions on radiation safety in the workplace. The primary instructors are Certified Health Physicists with over 100 years of practical radiation safety experience (including hands-on experience with NORM).
