X-ray Machine and Service Registration

State regulations require the registration of X-ray producing machines. The Radiation Safety Academy can assist you in registering this equipment and in preparing other required documents and reports specified by your State. Many states conduct radiation shielding plan reviews when radiation machines intended for use for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes are installed or relocated. Registrants must submit floor plans, shielding specifications and equipment arrangement of the installation. The Academy can assist you in preparing all documents required by your state regulatory agency.

In addition, states require the registration of any person who is engaged in the business of installing or offering to install radiation machines or is engaged in the business of furnishing or offering to furnish radiation machine servicing or services in the State. Registration of service personnel must occur prior to furnishing or offering to furnish any such services. Services requiring registration may include, but shall not be limited to,

  1. installation and/or servicing of radiation machines and associated radiation machine components,
  2. calibration of radiation machines or radiation measurement instruments or devices,
  3. radiation protection or health physics consultations or surveys, and
  4. personnel dosimetry services.

For information about cabinet x-ray systems you may also go to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website at www.fda.gov/cdrh/radhealth.
